The Red Hill Peony Estate is an exceptional floral, architectural and historic experience – it is also the first peony farm in the region. The Holmes/Sheehan family have lived on the property for 132 years, and this is the second time the recently established English-inspired gardens have been opened to the public.

Peonies have been used as medicinal plants for at least two thousand years. The peony flower was referred to in ancient Greece as “the Queen of all herbs” and the ancient Chinese considered the “tree peony” to be the “King of flowers”. Herbaceous peonies only grow in cool climates with cold winters such as the Mornington Peninsula as they need the cold to help trigger the development of the flower bud. Flaunting voluptuous blooms, they come in an array of colours from white through pink to red and mauve and in ruffled single and double forms and are very fragrant. The peony season is very short. If you are a garden lover or an outdoor enthusiast that appreciates wonderful garden architecture and a light stroll in the countryside, make sure you book your tickets in advance for this once in a year spectacular.

Unofficially….. Open Days for 2018 are anticipated to commence in mid-November on: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th, Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd December

Bookings will commence in mid-October. Please book in advance to avoid missing out. Hours on “Open Days” will be 10am – 4pm (last entry 3pm). Parking this year will be next to the Peony Paddock. Please enter through the gates from
237 Arthurs Seat Rd, Red Hill (parking is available on the grounds)

Saturday 5th October to Sunday 1st December 2019
5 October 2019, 10:00 AM to 1 December 2019, 5:00 PM

David Hockney is considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century and an important contributor to the pop art movement of the 1960s.

This exhibition highlights his talents as one of the greatest printmakers of our time and is a thrilling insight into the mind of an iconic artist still searching for new ways of seeing.

The exhibition is drawn from the National Gallery of Australia’s extensive collection, presenting over 80 works from 1961 to the present day including prints developed using lithography and etching, photocopiers and fax machines, and more recently, iPhones and iPads.

A truly international artist who moved to Los Angeles in 1964 and during his lifetime exhibited widely in the USA, UK and Europe, David Hockney has always demonstrated a profound visual curiosity and desire to surprise, shock and entertain.
