Summertime at Pitchingga Ridge

Hidden away among the tall gums in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula Hinterland, is a 25 acre patch of tranquility - home of Pitchingga Ridge Alpacas, where Jean & David, for the past 20 years have farmed the gentle, inquisitive alpaca. Both types are raised on the property - suri, with their long, flowing silky locks and huacaya, the more traditional, huggable type.

Suri & Huacaya

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Alpaca – they’re very intelligent, inquisitive animals that relate well to people so can make excellent pets. There are two types of alpaca in Australia - Suri & Huacaya and Pitchingga Ridge has both – mainly blacks, greys & whites, also some browns. Alpacas are shorn once a year, usually in October.
