Introducing Jenni Frendo (a.k.a. Yarnifer) rebel with a cause and devotee of Yarn Bombing – an artistic, creative and contemporary handicraft movement. Jenni is one of many contemporary yarn bombers making their mark around the Peninsula.  She’d be the first to admit there are mixed reactions towards her art but if her work currently displayed at the Cellar & Pantry in Red Hill South is anything to go by then all is good  – it makes people smile.

Jenni has been yarn bombing for 12 months with a group of like minded creatives. It surprises her how many young boys are into the concept and a group “Yarn Corner” has around 300 people yarn bombing around selected parts of Melbourne. Each installation is different and can take different amounts of time to make and install.

Each installation lasts it’s own unique lifetime and is governed by the severity of weather and exposure. When the acrylic wool, cotton and jute starts to loose it’s colour Jenni will dismantle it to recycle and repurpose. Nothing goes to waste.

Jenni has knitted since she was 8 years old. Her Aunty Leila taught her to knit and has enjoyed it her whole life. Jenni’s yarn bombing is a combination of her love for knitting, nature and creativity. If you haven’t had a chance to see this artistic installation then hop up to it – it won’t last forever.

Stop by the Cellar & Pantry to view some incredible contemporary street art. 141 Shoreham Rd, Red Hill South.
