It is said that in every walk with nature one receives far more than one seeks. This is also true when you meander through the Montalto Sculpture Park. Their are 20 permanent sculptures sensitively sited throughout the Montalto grounds and from January through to May, this permanent collection is joined by at least another 20 works which form the annual Montalto Sculpture Prize. The beauty about sculptures is that like us they occupy real spaces. You walk around them and relate to them as equally as another object or person – a compelling moment. Further to this, you’ll encounter calming open spaces, mystic wetlands, endless vines, abundant birdlife and gorgeous gardens. It all adds up to be an uplifting experience and restful for the soul.

From the grounds at Montalto are open daily between 11am – 5pm Please allow 1 hour to enjoy the Sculpture throughout the property. Montalto recommend you start the trail no later than 4pm, checking in at the cellar door prior to the walk is advisable, and you are most welcome to purchase a glass of wine to take on the walk with you – how very civilised!

The trail is approx 1km and suitable for most ages and abilities, it meanders over grassy lawns, gravel pathways through vines and boardwalks through wetlands. The grounds are undulating, and reasonably steep in sections, there are benches dotted along the walk, for a well earned rest as you go, and usually situated amongst the bush. On hot days the wetlands provide a welcome cool shelter and during the wet winter period it’s recommended to wear walking shoes, and gumboots and make sure you have a warm parker.

The trail is manageable with off-road push chairs. Unfortunately the Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs, however with advanced notice the lovely people at Montalto can arrange transport to various sections of the trail. Children must be supervised, as there are open areas to water and management ask for your co-operation in protecting their works of art, as well as your safety by not touching or climbing any of the sculptures.

If you’re inspired and happen to fall in love with any of the sculptures note that they are all for sale 🙂
