Hidden away among the tall gums in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula Hinterland, is a 25 acre patch of tranquility – home of Pitchingga Ridge Alpacas, where Jean & David, for the past 20 years have farmed the gentle, inquisitive alpaca. Both types are raised on the property – suri, with their long, flowing silky locks and huacaya, the more traditional, huggable type.

The colours are mainly blacks, greys and whites with the occasional browns and fawns. Alpacas, with their soft padded feet and gentle grazing habits are environmentally positive – ideal for Australia’s fragile soils, and small acreage farming. Summertime greets the visitor with alpacas freshly shorn, fleeces sorted, baled and stored in the shed ready for delivery to fibre processors for value adding into product. The on-farm shop is stocked with beautiful, warm, lightweight, non-allergenic and superbly soft rugs, scarves and apparel – perfect for those cooler nights.

Please note – access to Pitchingga Ridge Alpaca farm, is only via Mornington Flinders Road. Type in Green Olive, Red Hill and the turn-off into Stony Creek Rd is almost opposite. Farm open 10am to 4pm most days. (Please phone to make sure.)
