Summer for Kathy and Bernie from The Red Hill Kitchen in Flinders means: harvesting potatoes, rhubarb, garlic & zucchinis. Planting corn, beans, pumpkins & tying up the tomatoes! It also means keeping busy servicing their many customers who serve their famous condiments on the peninsula and tucking into the beautiful array of foods they put through winter which include olives, salami, preserved lemons etc.

The prolific vegetable garden, and kitchen are now separate but the store has more with vintage wares, gifts, linen and all the lovingly made artisanal product they are famous for and that you only get from simple homemade methods. For Bernie and Kathy, the business is still the means, not the end. This is in line with a philosophy of ‘work to live, don’t live to work’, but also their desire to employ and promote culinary methods that they believe are being lost, to our detriment, in the mass production of food. It’s about the little things that make a big difference and it’s all on display when you find your way to The Red Hill Kitchen at Flinders. We take our hats off to the both of them, they inspire us deeply.
