In 1924, Merricks General Wine Store (MGWS) opened, to serve a variety of needs to the local community. To this day, the well-preserved building offers a glimpse into the past as a typical example of the rural general stores that were once a central hub of community life.

With gable bays, verandah and a tree-shaded deck, MGWS provides the kind of setting that infuses Melbourne sophistication with country life on the Mornington Peninsula. Great food, wine, art and produce are central to the inner working’s of the general store today. Chef Patrice Repellin’s seasonal French menu flourishes using fresh, local ingredients to serve breakfast, lunch and in-betweens, seven days a week. The stores renowned cellar door features wine from it’s own vineyards, Elgee Park (the oldest in the region) and Baillieu wines alongside a selection of the regions finest bottles from neighbouring vineyards. For dinner in or a small gift, the ever-expanding produce store carries a stylish selection of country home wares and delicatessen style ingredients from the local region alongside European classics. Wander through the gardens to Merricks House Art Gallery and you’ll also find an eclectic mix of art and sculpture. Regularly curated exhibitions are held throughout the year showcasing artists from both the Mornington Peninsula and across Australia. To learn & see more visit lovethepen.com.au
